Project : Two Texts
Duration : 4 weeks
Tools : Adobe InDesign
For this project, I designed a book layout featuring two contrasting texts: Jerry Saltz's article How to Be an Artist, which offers structured advice for aspiring artists, and Taylor Swift’s lyrics from You Need to Calm Down, which advocate breaking free from rules and societal expectations. To reflect this clash of ideas, I used a classic serif font for Saltz's article, symbolizing tradition and structure, and a modern sans-serif font for the lyrics, representing freedom and defiance. I balanced the differing text lengths by distributing them evenly across the spread and aligned the lyrics with relevant points in Saltz's article. The design also emphasizes the song’s rhythm, creating a dynamic, visually engaging layout that communicates the tension and conversation between the two texts.
